My body really hates me at times..

I worked out Mon and tues as well as last sunday (yay me!) and tried to finish off that 30 Squats a day challenge. It was all going so well, I was building up my running distance again, everything!

Then half way through Wednesday, as I sat at my desk at work, my right knee started hurting, so I straightened it, and it stopped.  I bent it, and it hurt.  Walking it was fine, just bending it, that hurt. Well, that progressed to  hurting and feeling stiff and almost swollen  thurs, friday and saturday as well. I rested it Wed, Thurs, Friday, and iced it those days too. Then I walked a whole bunch on Saturday, and played a game of hockey. ( yes, that hurt it a little bit) I iced it again on Saturday night, and yesterday I woke up and it... felt fine.  A little stiff, but no pain anymore. Yay! :)  I kept my activity down to walking, however, trying to play it safe.

Today, again no pain, so I did a 30 min NTC work out (Nike Training Club, a cool new app for iPhone and iPad) and I went for a 30 minute walk with the dogs.  I felt the pain, or a phantom of it, as I was doing the lunges and squats, so I think I'm going to ice it again, but... fingers crossed whatever problem my knee had with me last week, its over with, so I can continue training. Going to try for a 3 mile run tomorrow. Might do some yoga tonight before bed, to clear my brain a tad bit.

But tomorrow also marks the start of the 30 Pushups a day challenge as well. So I'm going to try that, and if my knee doesn't hate me, I'll also restart the squat challenge at the same time.

I should have a couple hockey games this weekend too, which will be nice.

Instead of turning to chocolate, I turned to the treadmill

So, I've still been working out. Doing the 30 squats a day, and  Yoga  and a little bit of running. Nothing major, but as much as I could do. Last week started with me at someone elses house doing my mon-tues course work, so I stuck to a bit on the elliptical and then some chin ups - no wait, pull ups ( cause they have a chin-up bar) . Then  I came back home with Chris and had my last three leave days of the year...

On Thursday we did a very simple, but hard workout for the legs. I ran for 15 mins while Chris went on the stationary bike. Then we did 2 sets of 50 of Cross fit sit ups, Lunges, Squats and calf raises.  My knees were clicking, as were my hips by the end of it, but it was the next two days, I could barely walk up the stairs I hurt so bad.

We were going to work out on Saturday, but we were both feeling sick. ( headache, cough, sore throat) so instead we slept in a bit more before doing housework as my friend Mary ( the marathon runner) stopped in last night.

Today Chris and I went for brunch at his mom's house before I dropped him off at the airport. And just like that, he's gone again. I don't know when I'm going to see him next. He's going to be busy the next couple months and doesn't always work in the city, and with my training, I might be going away for six weeks at the end of this online learning thing.  So I came home, held it together pretty well. I did my homework ( for my university online course...) and then came to the point where there was nothing else to do...

I was upstairs with my face in his pillow, crying when I realized I was getting no where. So I made myself get my PT stuff on, and came downstairs. I debated between a circuit training workout and Yoga, and decided instead on a hard 15 minute run, and then did my 30 squats ( with a 25lb plate) and some sit ups ( with a 5lb medicine ball)

Nothing outstanding or amazing to write home about, but it burnt off some energy, and as I've found before,  screaming and crying while running burns stress/emotions like nobody's business...

Day 8 of 30 (Squats)

 So,

the last couple days I've been forcing myself back into the swing of things when it comes to working out. I hit ( yet another) speed bump and became less than regular over the last 2 or so weeks, my excuse was my travelling for work, with barely any time to sleep. I had swam and done yoga, but nothing super hard core.

So, I started with a 3 km run on Monday and a plate work out. My arms were jelly after that ( I used 25lb plate and a 15 lb kettle bell - yes I finally bought them) as well as my 30 Squats. I thought I was going to be sore... but I wasn't.  So Tuesday I did a 5 km run and a circuit that was mostly upper body, but abs as well, plus my squats. ( and I fixed my spin-lock dumbells, which makes me happy)
Today, I had a bit of... stomach upset so its a good thing its a rest day. I woke up with the worst headache known to man, and thought that that was the worst of it. It wasn't till around lunch time that my stomach acted up, and I've managed toast and some crackers this evening... :P   I've actually JUST started to feel better, so hopefully tomorrow isn't painful. I was planning on doing a lighter run, then some yoga. Maybe some abs too.

The girl from work who said she'd run the 10k with me finally signed up for it. I had kinda expected that she wasn't going to, but she did. So hopefully the weather will take a turn for the better and I'll be able to get some out door runs with her down.

I've also continued doing more work on my fundraising attempt with the Spartan Races. Though I don't know if I will personally be able to do them anymore ( with work training, I might be out of town and up to my eyeballs in not fun-ness) But, if I can at least get people doing it as well, fingers crossed.

Also, with this training thing for work, I want to be able to be competitive with the running and fitness that will me expected of me, so more motivation to keep going.

One step at a time. Ow, tummy decided to remind me that its still in pain... :(

30 for 30...

I've forgotten how nice it is to have a little stiffness in your body after going to the gym. One of the gentlemen I work with used to own a gym, and today he showed Casey (another coworker) and me a full body work out. I've been able to continue with my 30 squats a day, but today we used a medicine ball. The trick is, now I have to keep up with it.

As a piece of motivation, I bought an adorable dress for a wedding in July. I can get myself into it now, but I want to look better in it.... And I know this will help.

Not too much else to report just yet...

Back at it...

So, in the hopes of keeping up with Jacey, I've started to do this Spartan squat challenge (30 squats, 30 days). I have faith in being able to keep up... At least with that. I haven't been completely idle. Some of my friends had different challenges we were doing in November and December... One was another squat challenge, where we started with 5 and increased to 250 by day 30... Days 24-30 were really tough... Lol.

At work right now we are doing the Wellness Olympics. Its an honor system that is encouraging us to eat better by giving us points for consuming the proper amount of whole grains, vegetables/fruits, lean protein, and drinking our 8 glasses of water daily. We get extra points for exercising and weight loss... I figure if I can stick to that for the 6 weeks, maybe that'll help change my eating habits period.

Anyway... That's my basic wellness update. As promised to Jacey :-)
